Solaxyra is a free website of solar, battery, electrical and energy cost calculators, written for households and small businesses in the UK and Europe, with global users in mind. Each calculator is built to answer one practical question, such as how much a plug-in solar kit could save, how long a battery will run a load, or what an appliance costs to run at your tariff.
What Is Solaxyra For?
Our aim is to give you a clear, honest estimate before you spend money or call in a professional. Energy decisions often involve unfamiliar units, changing prices and sales quotes that are hard to compare. A good calculator shows its inputs, its formula and its assumptions, so you can check the result and change anything that does not match your situation.
Every calculator on the site follows the same principles:
- It runs in your browser, so you get results instantly and your inputs stay on your device.
- It shows the formula and a step-by-step breakdown, not just a final number.
- It uses sensible UK and European defaults, such as 230 V single-phase supply and current Ofgem price cap rates, which you can replace with your own figures.
- It warns you when an input is missing, zero or unrealistic, rather than showing a misleading answer.
Who Is It For?
Solaxyra is written for people who want to understand the numbers behind an energy decision. That includes:
- Homeowners and tenants comparing solar panels, plug-in solar kits or home batteries.
- Households trying to understand appliance running costs and energy bills.
- Campervan, boat and off-grid users sizing panels, batteries and charge controllers.
- Students, DIY enthusiasts and trades who need quick conversions such as watts to amps or kVA to kW.
The calculators give estimates for planning and comparison. They do not replace a site survey, a quote from an installer or advice from a qualified electrician. Our disclaimer explains the limits in more detail.
How Are the Calculators Built?
We start from primary and official sources rather than other calculator websites. The sources we rely on most include:
- PVGIS, the photovoltaic geographical information system published by the European Commission Joint Research Centre, for solar irradiation and expected yield across Europe.
- Ofgem, for the GB energy price cap unit rates and standing charges used as default prices.
- Energy Saving Trust, for independent guidance on home energy, solar and heating.
- gov.uk, for UK government rules and announcements, such as the conditions for plug-in solar.
- Standards summaries and manufacturer manuals, for electrical limits, battery behaviour and equipment ratings.
Formulas are checked against physics references and worked examples before a calculator is published. Where a figure cannot be confirmed from a reliable source, we do not present it as fact. Instead it becomes an editable input with a clearly labelled example value. The full process is set out in our editorial policy.
Is Solaxyra Independent?
Yes. Solaxyra does not sell installer leads, does not pass your details to solar or battery companies, and does not accept payment to rank, recommend or favour any product, brand or supplier. Brand names appear only where they are needed to describe something factually, and their appearance does not imply any partnership or endorsement.
If the way the site is funded changes in future, for example through advertising, we will say so clearly on this page and keep advertising separate from calculator results and editorial content.
Who Writes the Content?
Pages are written and maintained by the Solaxyra Editorial Team. Software, including AI tools, helps with drafting and checking, and every page is reviewed by the editorial team before it is published. Each guide shows the month it was last checked and lists the sources it relies on.
How Can You Get in Touch?
We welcome questions, suggestions for new calculators and reports of anything that looks wrong. You can reach us through the contact page or by email at contact@solaxyra.com. If you think a result is incorrect, please use the report an error page so we can check it quickly.
